Technologies for communication and alerting in public safety organisations are passing through a period of change. LTE has emerged as a new option alongside POCSAG and TETRA with their alerting and verbal communication capabilities. After a discussion of the requirements, the session will compare these technologies from an alerting perspective. Then, the economic situation will be considered in the context of the overall communication of the emergency response forces. Finally, two case studies (Integrated Emergency Control Room Lower Austria and the District of Rheinsieg in Germany) illustrate the findings. In each of these three parts, a special focus is given on how hybrid alerting and communication solutions can help make alerting processes of fire brigades even safer, faster and more economical.
