Autonomous vehicles hold a promise of cleaner, safer and more convenient modes of mobility. Many companies are including the technology as a strategic growth pillar in their plans.
But how long does it take before autonomous vehicles become a true public reality?
At La Trobe University, in collaboration with VicRoads, HMI, Keolis Downer, RACV and ARRB, over the past six months we have trailled a level 4 autonomous shuttle to find out exactly that. In this talk I will share the highlights of the project:
- What is required from a technology point of view to operate an autonomous shuttle?
- Is the technology ready to interact with normal traffic?
- Are consumers ready? What are their concerns?
In short: How far away are we from making these shuttles a public reality?
