SESSION OVERVIEW: Critical control rooms for the next generation of operations
This workshop brings together representatives from a range of organisations and industries to discuss new and emerging sensors and the role that they play in supporting smart cities.   The discussion will highlight trends and issues impacting on critical control rooms around the world. A key focus of the workshop will be an examination of new and emerging technologies and the challenges associated with the integration of those technologies into the control environment and legacy systems.

International Critical Control Room Alliance 
Critical control rooms are an essential component of an organisation’s or industry’s operation.  In some sense, critical control rooms are the actual heartbeat of an enterprise and they have to function 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During this process humans and machines combine to provide an operational function(s) that benefits a broad range of stakeholders.

This presentation provides an overview of the International Critical Control Rooms Alliance and explains how it brings together critical control room professionals in order to help deliver excellent mission-critical services.

Control Rooms are the human and built environments in which operators, controllers, engineers and planners are relied upon to make good decisions and effectively monitor, integrate and collaborate, all for the benefit and safety of every stakeholder involved with the business, and the plant and assets which they control. They are expected by their managers, colleagues, and themselves, to make reliable and timely decisions in a suitably safe, comfortable and ergonomic environment. The ACRNA is a not-for-profit, membership-managed, industry association established in 2017 to provide a forum to support the network of control room users and stakeholders. Its mission is the pursuit of control room best practice.   This presentation includes an update of the 2019 ACRNA Conference and AGM which have an impact on Australian Control Room Operations.

Managed Motorways in Melbourne
Melbourne’s motorways, including freeways and toll roads, carry about 40% of the city’s arterial road traffic, despite making up only 7% of the arterial road network (lane kilometres).

When traffic congestion occurs on a freeway, it causes stop/start traffic that reduces freeway productivity by up to 50%. Road safety is also reduced and the risk of crashes increases.

That’s why some of Melbourne’s busiest freeways are manage motorways, with world first technology that supports the best performance possible.

This presentation will provide an overview of the technology and data used to control the managed motorways.
