Andrew has been with Telstra for over 25 years, and is currently the Head of Service with responsibility for Telstra’s Public Safety Radio Networks in Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania as well as the Tasmanian Government.
During his time with Tasmania Police in the 1990’s, Andrew was responsible for designing their first IP network enabling WAN Communications around the state of Tasmania. When the Tasmanian Government outsourced their Whole of Government data network in 1997, Andrew moved to Telstra as an Applications Specialist looking after Networking Tasmania. During the mid 2000’s Andrew was the architect of the first MPLS network in the Tasmanian Government, a role he continued in for over 10 years as the network evolved.
His career took a direction change after that when he became an Enterprise Solution Architect (ESA) designing complex solutions for enterprise and government customers. Andrew was the ESA on the TasGRN project, starting in late 2018 and then transitioned to the Head of Service once the agreement was signed in 2020.
Andrew is also a member of the Tasmania Fire Service and has been Volunteer for over 32 years, 22 of which he was the First Officer of the Mt Nelson brigade. He currently holds the role of Group Officer for the Derwent Group looking after the 8 volunteer brigades in the greater Hobart area on the western shore of the Derwent River.
Andrew graduated from the University of Tasmania with an Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering, and is a Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers.
Andrew is also a freelance audio engineer, working as an audio director and audio technician for sports broadcasting including Cricket, AFL, Rugby and NBL. He also has a love for Musical Theatre and designs and operates around 8 shows a year.
