Inspector Nikala Parsons has been a sworn member of Tasmania Police for 18 years, and as the agency lead brings the strategic and operational focus to the project from an Emergency Service perspective. In late August, Nikala successfully delivered the TasGRN to over 1400 members of Tasmania Police as they became the first of the emergency service organisations to transition to the TasGRN.
Nikala has successfully led Tasmania Police through numerous technology development projects for Tasmania Police, continuously exploring the development of technology capabilities to improve efficiencies and operational safety of emergency services including:
She was pivotal in the development of new capabilities for the detection of online child exploitation material offenders as well as in the counter terrorism space, particularly in the covert online environment. In 2019, she established the Tasmanian Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET), working closely with the Australian Federal Police pursuing her passion in the protection of children from online sex offenders.
Nikala brings with her experience in other sectors in the area of emergency management, technology development and project management. She is a former Environmental Planner with a specific skillset in GIS capabilities with qualifications in Graduate Diploma Urban and Regional Planning (UNE) and also Professional Honours in Public Sector Leadership and Management (UTAS).
